Well, I always have been fascinated by high current and metallurgy. I created a makeshift crucible and took some scrap aluminium and decided to see what kind of alloy is created by a non-stoichiometric combination of the two. The result was a very brittle, very hard ceramic looking material that easily crumbled, obviously due to the rapid quenching of the hot melt…I was at work and only have limited time to screw around. I had the power supply cranked all the way up to 150 volts at over a hundred amps, I think anyhow. I used a 3/16 rod as well, old rod that got wet, and whose purpose was none more than retarded experiments such as this. By the way, you can see the 60 Hz interference with the 10 or so frame rate of the crappy cell phone camera. 50 Hz sounds so much meaner, but both will kill you easily if you aren’t careful. Oh well, this is what I do on my spare time at work. Hope you enjoy it, and as always, positive comments appreciated, negative ones encouraged. Thanks for watchin!
